Is our faith blinding us?
Like every other teenager metamorphosing into an awkward adolescent, I too had my share of wars that i fought against me and myself, between pink and black, feminism and equality, garish hypocrisy and dull forthrightness, however the most inconclusive was the
one between "the pretence of a religion that i dint understand" and "outright atheism".
No matter how much i dug deep into my self inflicted philosophies i could hardly settle into an answer that made sense both to my heart and to my mind. When i tried recalling my inception into my religion i could only recall being frightened about the power called God. Funny enough now, I could only remember my mother telling me that god would blind me if i pestered her for chocolates, that if dint go to temple everyday i wouldn't be able to recall anything in exam. I know this is just not the case with me in fact most of us share this similar introduction to God.
Especially in our country, discovering and evolving into a person that you understand is as criminal as an act of murder, the act of even questioning is too far fetched let alone just to wonder about our genuine religious basis is considered blasphemy. When it comes to religion and faith we are either too scared of God himself or of our honorless religious heads.
Do we follow our religion because we are made to?
Did we create God or did God create us?(yet a another chicken-egg puzzle!)
we are so imbued and tangled up in our own religious beliefs that we fail to realize- religions are 'man-made', to preserve humanity in humans. We get so involved in our senseless rituals that it is far forgotten what their origins are, using the institution of religious faith as a means of remorse to our malicious deeds. the most important question that taunted me was Is religion and god even barely connected?
As the never-ending debate continued in my head, i realised whether we believe in religion or still agnostic about the whole concept, we still would visit a temple the day of the results not just to lure God with offerings and fasting, but because we want to believe that they are things that is beyond our control just so that we can refrain from any guilt whatsoever.
I just believe that everything is an ultimate result of human convenience, like the terrorists who use Islam to their convenience to misguide young Islamic individuals.
All my mind could conclude was-"If religions are man-made ( and we know that they are) why not make our own set of beliefs that guide us than to blindly follow something because we are made to".
